Bee your TRUE self

Bzzz, hello again!  What is your favorite season of the year? I personally like late autumn, right before it gets too cold. Even though spring and summer are not my favorite, I like seeing all the lively colors and animals, and as you might have guessed, insects!  Now, let’s get to the bug talk.  Would you bee surprised if I told you that on top of having a rocky relationship with ants (which you can read a bit more in my previous post ), my relationship with wasps has been way better? Story time! –– Standing under a tree. The breeze hugs my face. It’s a warm day, like every day of the year. Bright sun rays on my face. The corner of my eye sees something small flying. It rests on my cheek. A wasp. I stay still. My aunt walks by, and she starts freaking out. Unbothered, I tell her that it’s only a wasp. “KILL IT, KILL IT. They are EVERYWHERE.

Visualize this: small. Green, almost translucent. Six tiny legs. Two antennas. Resting. Your hand.   How did that make you feel? If the answer is  EXCITED  then, this is the right place for you. If the answer is terrified , then this is the right place for you too, but for different reasons.  I discovered my fascination for insects at a very young age when I used to follow ants to their volcano looking houses, watch them carry other dead insects in, or watch them fight to death. Was I bitten by an ant? Yes. Multiple times. By multiple types of ants actually. Here is a short list of the types I can recall: fire ant, zompopo de mayo (warning: they are big. Their bite also hurts. A lot.), leafcutter, black carpenter ants, red carpenter ants. It is worth mentioning that a lot of ant species are harmless and will only bite in self defense. Did they bite me because I was bothering them? Most likely. A few other ants I have not had the pleasure to be bitten/stung by ...
